·        David Cox – Gloucester

·        Andrew Tyler – Ross-on-Wye

·        Robert Stacey – Stroud

·        Michael Godfrey – Swindon

They were presented with certificates for their achievements by Operations Director Rachel Geliamassi.

The Ecodriver system reduces CO2 emissions and fuel consumption in road transport by encouraging the adoption of green driving behaviour. It has significantly contributed to 30% reduction in stagecoach West’s carbon intensity over the last 5 years.  ‘Green’ driving behaviour translates into a better customer experience on the bus by eliminating harsh braking and acceleration.

The system, which was introduced in 2010, rates bus drivers on their driving, with measures including acceleration, turning, and braking, in order to help reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions, improve passenger comfort and cut the risk of accidents. It’s used nationally by Stagecoach, as one of their many initiatives to offer ‘greener, smarter travel.’

Each bus is fitted with a dashboard traffic lights-style system to provide drivers with real-time feedback on their driving style, with drivers being awarded an overall safety score for their driving over the course of the year.

Rachel said “I am so proud of our local drivers who have demonstrated excellent eco-driving skills over the last 12 months.  Their smooth driving provides more comfortable journeys for our passengers and helps reduce our carbon footprint. They are all so worthy of this acknowledgment.”
