Thunderstorms in the Orlndo area of Florida meant that the initial launch of the SpaceX rocket to the International Space Station had to be aborted on Wednesday, but it has been rescheduled for today May 30th and Swindonians should be able to catch a glimpse of the rocket flying overhead.
Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley were due to travel to the International Space Station (ISS) on the Falcon 9 rocket until the mission was aborted just 17 minutes before launch.
Nasa administrator Jim Bridenstine said the decision was made because there was “simply too much electricity in the atmosphere”.
He added: “There wasn’t really a lightning storm or anything like that, but there was concern that if we did launch it could actually trigger lightning.”
“I know there is a lot of disappointment today. The weather got us.”
The launch is scheduled for 8.22 pm UK time, and the forecast is for clear skies, as long as this continues it should be possible to see the spacecraft from around 8.35pm flying from West to East.
