Swindonians have taken to social media to share a please for people to come together on Christmas Eve to ‘ring a bell for Santa’ after ‘a tough year’.
The social media post, calling on ‘families to come outside’ and ring a bell for Santa on Christmas Eve, is thought to have originated in Scotland after the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon joked that ‘Santa is a keyworker’.

The full post says: “On Christmas Eve at 6pm we are asking everyone to come outside and ring a bell for 2 mins to spread Christmas spirit and to help Santa fly that sleigh.
“After a tough year it would be an amazing memory for the kids and communities. End 2020 with a bit of Magic, hope and togetherness!”
Louise Fry shared the post on the Swindon Community Notice Board on Facebook and similar posts have popped up in the local Rodbourne, Tadpole Garden Village and Penhill resident groups.
