Sir Robert Buckland MP welcomes share of £450million pot to improve school buildings in South Swindon

South Swindon MP Sir Robert Buckland has expressed his appreciation for the Conservative Government’s additional funding of over £450 million to upgrade school buildings across the country.

This funding will benefit several schools in South Swindon, including St Joseph’s Catholic College, The Dorcan Academy, Holy Rood Catholic Primary School, Holy Family Catholic Primary School, and The Chalet School.

A total of 859 academies, sixth-form colleges, and voluntary aided schools will receive a portion of the £456 million from the Condition Improvement Fund, with more than 1,000 projects being selected for implementation.

The investment aims to enhance and revitalise school and college facilities, providing students with safer and more comfortable classrooms, as well as energy-efficient buildings.

Commenting, Sir Robert Buckland said: “We must continue to invest in safe, warm, and energy-efficient classrooms so that pupils have the facilities they need to study effectively and succeed.

“That is why I welcome the news that the Conservative Government is investing an additional £456 million into our school buildings across the country, delivering over 1,000 building improvement projects, including at St Joseph’s Catholic College, The Dorcan Academy, Holy Rood Catholic Primary School, Holy Family Catholic Primary School, and The Chalet School here in South Swindon.

“This will help pupils to develop the skills they need for their careers as we grow the economy.”

This recent announcement follows the confirmation in December of 239 new school buildings as part of the Schools Rebuilding Programme.

With 400 out of 500 schools and sixth-form colleges now selected for rebuilds through this ten-year program, progress is being made towards improving educational infrastructure.
