According to data from the Charity Commission, there are 10,160 dedicated volunteers actively engaged in various roles within South Swindon constituency, with countless others making a difference throughout the country. Their invaluable efforts enable local charities and organisations to bring about positive change within their communities, as well as in the voluntary sector and society as a whole.

Volunteers are the backbone of the charity sector, generously offering their time and energy to help those in need. This includes charity trustees, the majority of whom serve as volunteers. The Charity Commission provides comprehensive guidance and support to help trustees effectively manage their charities, allowing them to improve lives and strengthen society.

Reflecting on the significant contributions of volunteers, Sir Robert Buckland MP said: “I have enjoyed volunteering with many outstanding charities here in South Swindon over the years, all of which rely on the dedication of volunteers. I want to thank all those who are giving up their time to support our local charities and congratulate them on everything they are doing to help these great organisations thrive.

“Volunteering is a great way to make new friends and to tackle loneliness and isolation. As well as helping others, volunteering has also been shown to improve volunteers’ wellbeing too.”

Orlando Fraser KC, Chair of the Charity Commission, expressed his gratitude to the volunteers in South Swindon, recognising their efforts in enhancing the community, fostering social cohesion, and strengthening society. He emphasised that amidst challenging economic circumstances, Volunteers’ Week serves as a reminder that we can contribute to charities in more ways than just financial support.

Volunteers’ Week, running from June 1st to 7th, provides a platform to acknowledge and express gratitude for the exceptional contributions of volunteers. The week is filled with various activities across the country, including volunteer recruitment events, open days, and celebrations, all aimed at recognising and honoring the invaluable work of volunteers.
