The 31-year-old suffered minor injuries.

The vehicle, a Nissan Juke, was found abandoned a short while later and has been recovered as part of the police  investigation.

A 25-year-old man was arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of attempted murder and was released on bail pending further enquiries.

Today, following extensive enquiries by officers, a 20-year-old man from Swindon has been arrested and is currently in custody in Gablecross police station for further questioning.

Det Sgt Scott Anger, from Swindon CID, said: “Officers from a number of departments in the Force have been working tirelessly on this case since the incident happened last Friday and I am pleased that we have now been able to make a second arrest. We have been keeping the family of the victim updated regularly with the investigation, and our thoughts are very much with them at this time.

“Due to the time and location of this incident, there were a number of witnesses and a large part of our enquiries have involved obtaining extensive witness statements. While I am confident we have spoken to the majority of witnesses we are aware of, there may be some people that have not yet had any contact from police, or have not yet made themselves known to us.

“If this applies to you, I would urge you to contact us by either calling 101 and quoting crime reference number 54200023696 or Operation Quillion, or emailing OperationQuillion@wiltshire.pnn.police.uk.”
