Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is expected to make an announcement this afternoon that Scotland will go into full lockdown from midnight, but there appears to be no indication as to if Boris Johnson will be following suit.
It is expected the lockdown will be the same as the original in March 2020 with restrictions preventing people from leaving their homes, unless for exercise and essential journeys. It is not yet known if Scottish schools will remain open during the lockdown.
This news comes as a Downing Street spokesperson refuses to rule out a French style curfew saying: “We have always said we will keep all measures under review and base our decisions on the latest scientific and medical evidence.
“The government will do whatever is needed to tackle the virus and will do that looking at the scientific evidence and data”.
On a visit to Chase Farm Hospital this morning Boris Johnson also confirmed stronger action will be necessary saying: “If you look at the numbers there’s no question we will have to take tougher measures and we will be announcing those in due course.”
