A new umbrella organisation for all of Swindon’s many litter picking groups to share their successes, called Keep Swindon Tidy, has been set up by Sarah Church.
The Facebook page, called Keep Swindon Tidy, has been established so that everyone can share their pictures, promote upcoming litter picks and celebrate keeping our town clean.
Sarah said, “Last weekend I was walking behind a group of young teenagers and one of them threw his can in the hedge. I asked him to pick it up but he wasn’t interested. Given the fact that lots of us across Swindon regularly give up our time to pick up litter, I felt something needed to be done to encourage more people to be mindful of their litter.
At this time of year, we see lots of groups from all over Swindon, of all political colours and none, come together for the Great British Spring Clean, so why don’t we celebrate everyone’s achievements year round? I’ve picked litter with lots of groups, and I know how hard people work. I’d encourage everyone to join the Facebook group, put up a poster in their window, post their pictures and promote their events!”
The next litter pick will meet at 10am on Saturday 14 March in the Eldene Morrisons car park, but check the page for future events.
