Salisbury fire station is set to welcome the public through its doors once again this weekend, with a community open day taking place on Saturday (23 August).
The Ashley Road station will be open from 10am until 4pm, offering residents the chance to see behind the scenes of their local fire and rescue service.
A wide range of appliances will be on display, including vehicles from across Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service and a specialist airport unit from Boscombe Down. Visitors will also be treated to live demonstrations throughout the day, featuring hot oil fire safety, the aerial ladder platform, technical rescues and even a simulated road traffic collision.
Alongside the main displays, there will be a CPR training zone where people can learn vital lifesaving skills, a fire engine driving simulator, and throwline practice for those keen to test their aim.
For younger visitors, the day promises plenty of fun with firefighter dress-up, sponge-throwing games, and the chance to meet Blaze Bear. A selection of toys and gifts will also be available to buy from the Fire Service Store, with proceeds going to the Fire Fighters Charity.
The event isn’t just about fire and rescue. Stalls will be set up by groups including Wessex Blood Bikes, Wiltshire Police, South Western Ambulance Service, and the NHS Blood Service, making it a broader showcase of the region’s emergency services.
Firefighter Sam Edwards said: “We’re building on the success of the last three years, and the event should be bigger and better than ever. We just want people to come along, meet their local firefighters, and hopefully pick up some useful safety advice while enjoying a family day out.”
Admission and activities are free, though donations raised from refreshments and shop sales will support the Fire Fighters Charity. Visitors are reminded there is no parking available at the fire station, so walking or public transport is recommended.
