In their unwavering commitment to road safety, roads policing officers detected a staggering 72 driving-related offences during their Project Zero patrols in Swindon on Wednesday.
Project Zero, a weekly roads policing operation held at various locations across the county, focuses on targeting drivers who engage in the “fatal five” offences in a concerted effort to minimise casualties on our roads.
While the checks conducted by the Roads Policing Unit (RPU) officers are part of their everyday duties, Project Zero allows the department to amplify its resources in designated community policing areas, specifically targeting individuals who exhibit excessive speed, engage in drink/drug driving, use their mobile phones while behind the wheel, fail to wear seatbelts or drive in a careless and dangerous manner.
During the operation, the team joined forces with speed enforcement officers to patrol crucial school routes, ensuring the safety of vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists.
A/Insp Will Ayres, offering insights into the operation, stated, “Throughout the day, we detected a total of 72 motoring offences, ranging from speeding, failure to wear seatbelts, and using mobile phones while driving, to vehicles with insecure loads and disqualified drivers.”
To address concerns raised by the community, the speed enforcement team conducted speed checks at various locations. A/Insp Ayres encouraged individuals with concerns to utilise the reporting tool available on their website, emphasising the police’s commitment to addressing community concerns promptly.
Project Zero will continue its mission at a new location next Wednesday, continuing the tireless pursuit of road safety and the reduction of driving offences in the area.
