RMT Suspends Tube Strike as Progress in Talks with TfL Averts Service Disruption

Swindonians heading into London this week can breathe a sigh of relief as the RMT union announced the suspension of planned Tube strikes, averting potential service disruptions.

The strikes, initially scheduled from today to Thursday, were in protest against a 5% pay offer. The decision to call off the strikes follows positive developments in discussions between the RMT and Transport for London (TfL).

RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch conveyed the union’s decision, stating, “Following further positive discussions today, the negotiations on a pay deal for our London Underground members can now take place on an improved basis and mandate, with significant further funding for a settlement being made available.”

The key breakthrough in funding positions paves the way for a more constructive dialogue between the RMT and TfL, prompting the immediate suspension of the scheduled strike action. Lynch expressed the union’s eagerness to engage in urgent negotiations with TfL to formulate a suitable agreement and bring a resolution to the ongoing dispute.

Mick Lynch further commented, “This significantly improved funding position means the scheduled strike action will be suspended with immediate effect, and we look forward to getting into urgent negotiations with TfL in order to develop a suitable agreement and resolution to the dispute.”
