Residents urged to be vigilant following attempted burglary in Moredon

Police investigating a burglary in the Moredon area are urging Swindonians to be vigilant when leaving their houses unoccupied.

The incident in question happened on March 23rd, shortly after 10.20am when the occupants had left the address just minutes before the rear patio doors were smashed however nothing was stolen as the would-be intruders were scared off by an alarm system and left the scene without fully gaining entry.

Police believe the suspects had been in the area and saw the occupants leave the address before attempting to break in.

PC Bianca Allen said: “Thankfully, nothing was stolen during this incident however it was upsetting and extremely unsettling for the occupants of the house who were alerted to the break-in by their alarm company whilst out and returned from the shops to find the patio door smashed.

“I’d like to use this opportunity to remind residents to be vigilant and take precautions to secure their property as much as possible. Keep doors and windows locked, and cameras charged and ensure batteries are working in alarms. These criminals are opportunists and will scope areas and target homes they believe are empty.

“Please report any suspicious activity in your area by calling 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress.”
