The family of a teenage boy who died in a collision on the A419 on Tuesday evening when the Vauxhall Astra he was in collided with the roundabout at junction 15 for the M4, have paid tribute to him.
In the poignant tribute, the family remembers 17-year-old Jamie as a “cheeky chappy,” a remarkably talented football player, and an all-around sportsman. Describing him as a lover of Xbox and a competitive spirit, they highlight Jamie’s infectious laughter and his ability to light up any room with his sense of humor.
They also said “Jamie was also one of the kindest, sweetest boys. He was very popular and never forgot anyone he met and vice versa – he left a lasting impression on anyone who met him.”
Jamie’s adventurous spirit is also celebrated, with a passion for family holidays, kayaking, caving, go-karting, and the occasional water park visit. The family dog, Buddy, will feel the absence of Jamie’s playfulness and undivided attention.
Amidst their grief, the family makes a heartfelt appeal to halt speculation about the collision and ongoing investigation, requesting space to mourn privately, “we are trying to grieve as a family and unwanted comments on social media are having a negative impact on all of us,” they said.
Addressing the public GoFundMe page set up in Jamie’s memory, the family said “We are aware of the GoFundMe page which has been set up on behalf of the family. We would like to clarify this has not been set up by our family or any of our close friends.
“We appreciate that many of our friends have contributed to the page and we really appreciate your generosity. We do not need the money for the funeral and we hope that the money can be used for something positive in the future.
“We would urge as a family that any future donations be stopped whilst we consider the most suitable charity we would like to donate to.”
The family expresses gratitude for the vigil set up by Jamie’s friends at St Andrews Ridge, “we have been to see it and we appreciate the flowers, cards and balloons.”
Respectfully, they seek time and space from everyone to allow them to “grieve as a family at the most difficult time of our lives.”
Please note that formal identification is still pending.
