Redrow Thames Valley Empowers Swindon Children to Protect Bees and Promote Biodiversity

In celebration of National Bee Day, leading Swindon housebuilder Redrow Thames Valley organised a special ‘bee-saving’ class, inviting children from Badbury Park Primary School to participate.

The event aimed to educate and inspire young minds about the importance of bees and their role in the environment, with the ultimate goal of making Swindon a more bee-friendly town.

The interactive session took place in the gardens of the show homes at Badbury Park on Homington Avenue, where the children engaged in various activities and games facilitated by the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust. Visual aids and interactive demonstrations were used to highlight the different species of bees and their invaluable contributions to the ecosystem.

Sarah Boyce, Sales Director for Redrow Thames Valley, emphasised the company’s commitment to addressing the climate emergency: “Helping to tackle the climate emergency is a key priority for Redrow Thames Valley. We want to do our part, which is why we’ve invited local children to come and take part in an educational bee-saving class to help make Swindon a more bee-friendly neighbourhood. We enjoyed welcoming the children and encouraging everyone to learn more about our buzzing neighbours.”

The ‘bee-saving’ class received enthusiastic feedback from Louise Dance, Headteacher at Badbury Park Primary School: “We love to encourage our pupils to learn more about how to better look after the world around them. We all had a great day taking part in the bee-saving class – it was a great session at Badbury Park, and the children enjoyed it thoroughly. Thank you to Redrow Thames Valley for inviting us to take part. We’re looking forward to continuing our budding relationship with Redrow.”

Redrow Thames Valley is dedicated to promoting biodiversity and has developed a biodiversity strategy in partnership with The Wildlife Trust. This strategy aims to integrate the natural environment into its developments and the lives of its residents, ensuring that bees and other wildlife can thrive in these newly built environments.

The strategy follows a net gain approach to biodiversity, ensuring that each development incorporates green spaces or landscaped communal areas that foster wildlife habitats. Features such as green routes for walking and cycling, orchards, meadows, and wetland areas like ponds and swales are integrated into the developments.

Badbury Park, located on the outskirts of the scenic Coate Water Country Park and conveniently connected to both the M4 and Swindon town centre, offers an ideal setting for first-time buyers and growing families. The development provides a range of three and four-bedroom homes, with prices starting from £350,000. With its own primary school and proximity to a secondary school, Badbury Park is the perfect place to establish a home.
