Travellers are being warned that there will be significant disruption to rail services over the next week with a number of strike days planned.
The disruption will be worse than previous rail strikes as it is the first time members of the RMT, Aslef and TSSA unions have walked out together due to a dispute with the government and rail companies about pay, job cuts and changes to terms and conditions.
Saturday will see just 11% of services operating with many areas being cut off by train travel altogether. Further strikes are also planned for Wednesday 5th, Thursday 6th, Friday 7th, and Saturday 8th October.
GWR have warned there will be an “extremely limited service” available on the strike days with rail services operating between 0730 and 1830 on the routes between Bristol Temple Meads and London Paddington; Reading and Didcot; and Reading and Basingstoke only.
Network Rail chief executive Andrew Haines said: “Passengers who want to travel this Saturday, and indeed next Wednesday and next Saturday, are asked only to do so if absolutely necessary.
“Those who must travel should expect disruption and make sure they check when their last train will depart.”
