Rail Passengers Advised to Plan Ahead and Consider Alternatives Ahead of Industrial Action This Week

GWR (Great Western Railway) is advising passengers that industrial action will impact its services, along with CrossCountry rail services, on Thursday, December 7th, 2023.

The disruption is expected to result in a reduced and revised timetable, affecting numerous train operators, including GWR.

On Thursday several parts of the GWR network will experience a complete suspension of services, and those trains that do run will operate for a limited period during the day. Passengers are advised that services on the day following the strike may also be subject to a limited number of short-notice cancellations and alterations.

Furthermore, commuters should be prepared for potential disruptions until Saturday, December 9th, due to industrial action short of a strike. This may lead to additional short-notice alterations or cancellations during this period.

What to Expect and How to Prepare
With trains operating on a reduced schedule, those services that do run are anticipated to be significantly busy. Passengers planning to travel on December 7th are strongly advised to check both outward and return journeys before commencing their travels. It is important to note that the disruption will not be limited to GWR alone, as other train operators will also be affected, potentially impacting onward travel plans.

Passenger Options
Passengers facing the inconvenience of disrupted services are encouraged to explore alternative travel arrangements, including considering traveling on a different day. GWR acknowledges the inconvenience caused and offers passengers who have already purchased tickets for the strike day the option to claim a full refund or amend the date and time of their ticket.

GWR advises passengers to check its official website and other communication channels for real-time updates and further instructions.
