The new rules will apply to travellers to the UK from 33 “red list” countries, who from February 15th will be required on arrival to quarantine in a designated hotel for ten days.
Quarantine hotels are expected to be set up near airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.
The rules will apply to UK nationals and residents returning to the country and not foreign nationals as those from high-risk countries already face UK travel bans.
The countries on the ‘red list’because they have reported cases of mutant variants of the virus or frequent connection routes for travellers from those countries.

Angola, Argentina, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Burundi, Cape Verde, Chile, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador, Eswatini, French Guiana, Guyana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Suriname, Tanzania, UAE, Uruguay, Venezuela, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
