Quality Street to ditch bright plastic wrappers

Quality Street is set to ditch its famous bright plastic wrappers in favour of a more ecofriendly recyclable paper packaging it has been revealed.

Nestlé has used the bright coverings for 87 years but this year will see the new wrapping introduced.

With around 1.7 billion Quality Street chocolates consumed every year in Britain, the plastic wrappers end up finding themselves in landfill.

The Orange Crunch and the Green Triangle will remain in their simple foil wrappers as, traditionally, they have not used any plastic wrapping.

Richard Watson, Business Executive Officer, Nestlé Confectionery said: “These major packaging innovations have been pioneered by our teams here in the UK.

“The category-leading Quality Street paper twist-wraps have been designed at our Confectionery Product Technology Centre in York, and implemented in Halifax, the home of Quality Street for 87 years.

The new Quality Street wrappers will still be colourful and are expected to be making their way into tins in time for this Christmas.

Nestlé have also announced that KitKat will introduce wrappers made with 80% recycled plastic*. These wrappers can be recycled at more than 5,000 supermarkets across the UK
