A prolific shoplifter has been sentenced to six months in prison following a spree of thefts across Swindon. Mark Stiggers, 34, of no fixed abode, appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on 22nd October, where he pleaded guilty to 14 counts of theft and one count of assault.
Stiggers had been wanted in connection with a series of shoplifting incidents, all committed between August and October. He was apprehended by officers on 21st October and subsequently charged. The court sentenced him to 26 weeks in custody and ordered him to pay a £154 surcharge to fund victim services.
PC Conway, who was involved in the case, commented on the conviction, stating, “Stiggers was a persistent offender, targeting businesses across Swindon and would have continued if not apprehended. I am pleased with the custodial sentence handed down by the courts, and I believe this will be welcome news to local businesses.”
Police have confirmed that they will continue to work closely with retailers to identify and bring to justice those who commit shoplifting offences.
