Prime Minister Boris Johnson says he does not rule out imposing tougher Covid-19 restrictions

With Scotland announcing tighter lockdown restrictions to come into force on Saturday there has been a lot of speculation that the rules will be further tightened in England, a move that Boris Johnson refuses to rule out.

During Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Commons today, he said: “We keep things under constant review and we will continue to do so.

“And certainly if there is any need to toughen up restrictions, which I don’t rule out, we will of course come to this House.”

The Prime Minister did however admit that the latest lockdown restrictions brought in last week were starting to have an effect on the spread of COVID in some parts of the country.

“What we are now seeing, and it’s very, very important to stress that these are early days, we are now seeing the beginnings of some signs that that is starting to have an effect in many parts of the country, but by no means everywhere and it is early days,” he said.
