How to successfully pitch stories to journalists will take centre stage at a public relations event being planned for Swindon.
Scheduled for the 5th and 6th of February next year, the two-day ‘No BS Media Summit’ promises to be a game-changer for attendees. The event is being organised by Fiona Scott, founder of PR consultancy Scott Media.
Delegates at the summit will have the unique opportunity to engage with five journalists who write for national publications. Additionally, the event will offer sessions on personal branding and public speaking. This comprehensive approach ensures participants gain a thorough understanding of what piques media interest and how to effectively boost their PR efforts on various levels.
The ‘No BS’ title is inspired by Fiona’s popular fortnightly podcast, which aims to demystify the often opaque world of public relations. Fiona commented, “Like my podcast, this event will cut through the nonsense and clear up some of the myths surrounding PR. Delegates will receive practical advice, hints, tips, and inspiration.”
Fiona emphasised the value of having journalists present at the event. “By having journalists who produce content daily for national, regional, and trade press, people will gain a real understanding of what makes a compelling news story,” she said. “Delegates will work on their stories, learn about personal branding, and how to share their stories with the media at the right time.”
The summit will take place at The Double Tree Hilton in Swindon. Day one will focus on working with journalists and will include an option to book for a VIP dinner. The dinner will feature fundraising for ‘Ainslie’s Pavilion Project,’ a cause dedicated to building a pavilion at Purton Cricket Club, which is close to Fiona’s heart. Day two will cover personal branding, becoming an effective speaker, and practising pitching stories to journalists.
Attendees can choose from various attendance options, including day one only, day one with dinner, or the entire two-day event. Prices range from £300 to £660 + VAT. Optional extras, such as a mini photoshoot on day two, are also available.
