Poundland Unveils New Town Centre Store in Former Wilko Location

Poundland is set to enhance its presence in Swindon with the opening of a new store in the former Wilko space on The Parade.

This expansion is part of Poundland’s ambitious plan to convert 63 Wilko stores following the homeware giant’s unfortunate closure earlier this year.

During this expansion, Poundland has prioritised providing employment opportunities for former Wilko staff, with offers extended to over 800 individuals.

Managing Director Austin Cooke expressed excitement about the store’s opening and the ongoing efforts to bring Poundland’s diverse offerings, including clothing, chilled, and frozen food, to both existing and new customers.

The company is on track to successfully open 86 stores in the last quarter of the year, with the Swindon Town Centre location being a significant addition.

Cooke acknowledged the remarkable dedication of Poundland teams in making this expansion possible and highlighted the positive impact on jobs and high streets across Britain. “The monumental effort from our teams continues to amaze me, and it supports jobs and high streets right across Britain.” he said.

“That’s 86 stores in 70 days that we’ll have opened successfully, and no one should underestimate the effort and energy that our teams have put into delivering that achievement – I certainly don’t. It’s phenomenal!”

All new Poundland stores, whether former Wilko units or not, feature the Pepco family clothing range, offering a variety that includes popular brands like Cardio Bunny and Bekkin for lifestyle and athleisure wear. The inclusion of baby and kidswear further enhances Poundland’s diverse product range, contributing to its appeal as a one-stop shopping destination.
