Political candidates will speak alongside frontline NHS staff at a #VoteNHS Election Roadshow

On Sunday 1st December Keep Our NHS Public Swindon will host an NHS themed hustings at Swindon Arts Centre. All the prospective parliamentary candidates standing in both North and South Swindon have been invited to attend this event. They will be able to have their say on the NHS and the pressures it faces. Candidates will then be quizzed by the audience during a Q&A session. The audience crucially will also hear from two frontline NHS workers about the challenges they face in their day to day work, and what they think needs to be done about it.

These voices will cut through the political spin to what is really happening on the NHS front line. Dr Mona Kamal, Consultant Psychiatrist and Dr Jackie Applebee-Turner, a GP, will talk about their own ongoing experiences delivering care. Their testimony is particularly relevant in Swindon which has seen the recent closure of a mental health facility and ongoing issues around general practice. The doctors will be able to offer the public a much-needed insight into why these problems occurred.

Samantha Wathen of Keep Our NHS Public Swindon said,“This election is crucial for the future of our NHS, both locally and nationally, and its future affects every one of us. I dearly hope that local people come, listen to candidates and use the opportunity to have their say on the state of the national health service. This chance only happens once every five years, so please vote wisely, #VoteNHS.”
