Wiltshire Police are appealing for help from the public after a woman was reportedly assaulted in broad daylight on one of Swindon’s busiest roads.
The incident, which occurred around 10am on Wednesday 3rd April near the Greenbridge roundabout on Oxford Road, saw a man and woman involved in a heated altercation inside a grey Toyota Hilux. Witnesses reported that the pair exited the vehicle, at which point the man allegedly struck the woman in the face. The woman then fled the scene on foot via a nearby cut-through.
A 28-year-old man from Swindon has been arrested on suspicion of assault and subsequently released on bail while police continue their enquiries.
However, officers have so far been unable to trace the woman involved and are now turning to the public for assistance. They are keen to speak to the woman directly, not only to support the ongoing investigation but to ensure her welfare.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “This is a concerning incident in a busy part of town during daylight hours. We are urging the woman involved – or anyone who knows who she is – to come forward. Her safety is our priority, and we are committed to making sure she is okay.”
Police are also keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or captured it on dashcam footage.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 101, quoting reference 54250040474. Information can also be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
