Police are calling on members of the public to come forward with any information following a disturbing incident in Swindon, where a young child was reportedly assaulted in broad daylight.
The incident took place at approximately 8pm on Wednesday 12th June, in a park off Eastern Avenue in Walcot. A nine-year-old boy, who had been riding his bicycle, was allegedly approached by a teenage male who racially abused him, before physically attacking him — punching the child in the face and kicking him once he fell to the ground.
The boy was left shaken and injured, with a bleeding lip and redness to his ribs. He did not require hospital treatment but has understandably been left distressed by the attack.
The suspect is described as a chubby white male, believed to be around 15 years of age, with dark brown hair, brown eyes, and speaking with an Irish accent. He is thought to be approximately 5ft 2in tall and was last seen wearing an orange t-shirt with black tracksuit bottoms.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have seen someone matching the description in the area at the time to get in touch. Officers are particularly keen to hear from local residents who may have CCTV or doorbell camera footage that could assist in the investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to call Wiltshire Police on 101, quoting log 346 of 12th June. If you prefer to remain anonymous, you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
