Part of Great Western Hospital evacuated after ‘dangerous device’ threat

Part of a the Swindon Great Western Hospital was evacuated last night after claims a potentially dangerous device was brought onto the premises.

Happening between 10 – 11pm yesterday evening staff at the hospital raised the alarm with the police and proceeded to evacuate the areas deemed necessary.

A statement from Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust says, “Wiltshire Police attended an incident last night following credible claims a potentially dangerous device had been brought into the building.

“Staff acted quickly, calmly and professionally to ensure patients and colleagues were kept safe at all times and, as a precaution, two departments were evacuated.

“As soon as police confirmed there was no immediate danger and that the hospital was safe to enter, staff and patients returned with normal service resuming shortly after.”

Wiltshire Police say they have arrested a 47-year-old man in connection with the incident.

Although the investigation is ongoing there appear to be no links to terrorism.
