The McCarthy Stone Foundation has given the Parkinson’s UK Swindon and District Branch a welcome boost with a £500 grant to help support those living with Parkinson’s and their carers.
The Parkinson’s UK Swindon and District Branch offers information, friendship, and support to local people with Parkinson’s, their families, and carers within the local community. This includes social events, regular group meetings for both those living with the condition and their carers, and a range of free activities.
The £500 grant from the McCarthy Stone Foundation will aid in facilitating free group exercise classes, helping to fund the hire of a room at the local leisure centre as well as paying for specialist instructors trained in teaching those living with Parkinson’s.
Anna Newman, Secretary at Parkinson’s UK Swindon & District Branch, said: “Our group exercise classes are particularly important for our members as studies show that regular exercise helps to slow down the progress of Parkinson’s. The kind grant from the McCarthy Stone Foundation will allow us to run more classes, such as Seated Exercise, Balance and Exercise and Dance for Parkinson’s, helping our members to stay active, both physically and mentally. We can’t thank the team enough.”
The McCarthy Stone Foundation is the independent, registered charity of the UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities, McCarthy Stone, which has a new development in Swindon, Gilbert Place on Lowry Way. It aims to build long-term partnerships with charities and organisations who support the wellbeing of older people, the educational needs of young people and the urban regeneration of communities by providing much-needed financial grants, volunteers, and other resources.
Graeme Marsh, Foundation Manager at the McCarthy Stone Foundation, said: “Parkinson’s UK Swindon and District Branch is an important pillar of the local community. Its support for those living with Parkinson’s as well as their families, friends and carers is absolutely vital, and we’re delighted to aid the brilliant efforts of the organisation and help fund their important exercise classes.”
