More than 100 homes in Park South are set to benefit from a £6million energy investment project by Swindon Borough Council.
This ambitious project which aligns with the the Council’s commitment to its “Build a Greener Swindon” whilst at the same time improving residents living standards.
The initiative will see 114 council-owned properties upgraded to achieve a minimum Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of ‘C’, an improvement on their current ‘D’ or lower ratings.
These upgrades include the installation of solar panels, external wall insulation, draught-proofing, and the replacement of doors and windows with modern UPVC units, all designed to minimise heat loss and reduce energy bills for residents.
Councillor Emma Bushell, Deputy Leader of the Council, talked about the importance of these enhancements, saying, “Up to 75% of a building’s energy can be lost through its external structures. By addressing this, we’re making a real difference to residents while progressing towards a greener Swindon.”
Councillor Janine Howarth, Cabinet Member for Housing, echoed these sentiments, stating that the upgrades will “make it easier and cheaper for tenants to keep their homes warm.” She highlighted the Council’s success in securing government funding, which has made these improvements possible, with further plans under consideration to extend energy efficiency upgrades to additional social housing in the future.
This project forms part of the broader Swindon Borough Council Plan, a long-term strategy to enhance the town’s environmental and social infrastructure set out in July.
