Lydiard Park burst into colour on Saturday 16 August as more than 550 people laced up for Prospect Hospice’s annual Run the Rainbow, raising over £32,000 so far to support local hospice care.
The 5k event, part of the hospice’s 45th anniversary celebrations, saw participants of all ages run, walk, dance or simply laugh their way through a series of colour stations, where clouds of rainbow powder turned the route into a moving work of art. Music, cheers and plenty of family fun made the day as memorable as it was meaningful.
Among the many who took part was eight-year-old Lily, who said: “I loved running through the colours! My favourite was the blue one because it made me look like a Smurf. I can’t wait to do it again next year!” Her mum, Sarah, added: “It was such a special day for us as a family. Knowing it’s all for such an important cause makes it even more meaningful.”
So far, the colourful spectacle has raised more than £32,000, with every pound going towards providing free, specialist care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses, and their families, across Swindon and north east Wiltshire.
Jeremy Lune, CEO at Prospect Hospice, said: “Run the Rainbow is one of our most joyful fundraising events, and this year was extra special as we marked 45 years of care. We’re so grateful to everyone who joined us, volunteered, and supported the day. It’s thanks to you that we can continue to provide our vital services to patients and their loved ones when they need us most.”
