Swindonians in their forties will start to receive invitations for their Covid-19 jabs from tomorrow after the government confirmed it had reached its target to vaccinate everyone in the top nine priority groups – meaning the vaccination plan can move on to its next phase.
32 million people in the UK have so far have received one of the Pfizer/BioNTech, the Oxford/AstraZeneca or the Moderna vaccines with more than 7.4 million having had their second jab.
Letters will be sent to the under 50s explaining how the slots can be booked through the national booking service online or over the phone.
In England around 94% of people aged 50 and over and around 92% of those identified as clinically extremely vulnerable have had their first jab.
A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said: “Our vaccination programme continues at pace with over 32 million people having now received a first dose.
“Our target is to offer a jab to over 50s by April 15 and all adults by the end of July, and we are on course to meet that.
“We will be setting out more details later this week.”
