More than 2,000 runners pounded the streets of Swindon on Sunday 28 September for the 2025 Swindon Half Marathon – with 116 participants proudly running for Prospect Hospice, raising over £28,000 (and counting) to support local patients and families.
As the marathon’s Chosen Charity of the Year, Prospect Hospice celebrated not only the incredible community turnout, but also its own milestone – 45 years of caring for people across Swindon and north east Wiltshire.
“We are so grateful to everyone who ran, cheered, and supported Team Prospect,” said Jeremy Lune, Chief Executive of Prospect Hospice. “Every mile completed and every pound raised will make a real difference to the patients and families we care for. Seeing over 100 runners join us this year was truly inspiring.”
The scenic route wound through Wanborough, Badbury and Medbourne, with fast, flat opening miles and gentle hills providing the perfect challenge for runners of all abilities. Team Prospect runners were cheered on by volunteers and staff, and received branded vests and fundraising support.
For some, the race carried deeply personal meaning.
Mary Cheston, who ran with her brother in memory of their father, said:
“Running the Swindon Half Marathon with my brother for Prospect Hospice was incredibly meaningful for us. The Prospect nurses who visited our home gave us much needed respite and allowed us to say goodbye in a beautiful way, at home as he had wished. We will forever be thankful for what they did for us.”
Mary is also set to take on the Great Wall of China Trek in October, continuing her fundraising journey in support of the hospice.
The money raised will directly fund Prospect’s free, compassionate palliative and end-of-life care, ensuring that expert support remains available to everyone in the community who needs it.
