Over 100 cinemas under threat as Cineworld set to file for bankruptcy

Thousands of jobs could be at risk with as many as 127 cinemas at threat of closing after it was revealed Cineworld, which also owns the Picturehouse chain, is preparing to file for bankruptcy with weeks.

The Cineworld Group is the second largest cinema chain in the world with 751 sites and 9,189 screens across the globe in countries such as n the US, Poland, Romania and Hungary.

It is understood the British arm of the company has brought in lawyers from Kirkland & Ellis LLP with consultants from AlixPartners to advise on the bankruptcy process.
