An exciting Open Day is scheduled at Swindon fire station this Saturday (29th July) to raise funds for the Fire Fighters Charity and Young Lives vs Cancer.
The event will run from 11 am to 4 pm, offering an array of captivating demonstrations, including hot oil fires, technical rescue operations, road traffic collision extrication, fire extinguishing techniques, and the use of the aerial ladder platform.

Beyond the exhilarating displays, attendees can indulge in various attractions, such as face painting, a raffle boasting numerous enticing prizes, the Fire Fighters Charity shop, and a recruitment stand. The Open Day caters to children’s enjoyment as well, with activities like a bouncy castle adding to the fun. In addition, Swindon Town FC will be taking part with a penalty shoot-out area.
The day will also feature a tombola; however, a supplier that was to provide several items has regrettably withdrawn support. Therefore, contributions of non-perishable items like biscuits, bottles, sweets, toys, etc., are warmly welcomed. Those willing to donate can conveniently drop off the items at the fire station located on Drove Road or get in touch via swindonopenday@dwfire.org.uk.
Organisers encourage attendees to use public transport whenever possible. However, if driving is necessary, parking will be available at Holy Cross Primary School on Queens Drive or at St Joseph’s Catholic College on Ocotal Road, as both schools have generously allowed the use of their car parks for the event.

Station Manager Dave Slawinski expressed enthusiasm for the Open Day, assuring that it will be an enjoyable experience for the whole family. “This should be a great day for the whole family, with plenty to see and do. Thanks to the kind donations of local businesses, we are keeping the prices for food and drink as low as possible, and most of the activities are free.
“That said, we are supporting two very good causes, so we’re looking forward to seeing lots of people!”
