Families looking for fresh air, history and hands-on fun this October half term can find plenty to enjoy at Avebury, part of the National Trust’s World Heritage Site in Wiltshire.
Nature Spotter Trail
Head to Avebury Manor Garden to experience the glorious colours of autumn on a family-friendly nature spotter trail. Children can borrow explorer backpacks — complete with binoculars — to help them find bugs, butterflies, and interesting plants.
No need to book. Normal garden admission applies, but entry is free for National Trust members.
Family Guided Tours
Discover the secrets of the world’s largest prehistoric stone circle on a special family guided tour of Avebury stone circle and henge.
Tours take place on Sunday 26th, Wednesday 29th, and Sunday 2nd October at 11:30am and 1:30pm.
Tickets are £3 per child (accompanying adults go free) and can be purchased from visitor reception in the barn on the day.
Download the Mixed Reality Game
Experience Avebury like never before with the ‘Ages of Avebury’ mixed reality game, a free downloadable adventure that lets families connect with the ancient landscape and uncover hidden stories.
Available now on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
Activities in the Barn
When it’s time to warm up indoors, head to the barn for arts, crafts and colouring activities.
Families can also explore an augmented reality version of a complete stone circle, or build their own miniature version of the late Neolithic West Kennet palisades, which once stood in the nearby Kennet Valley.
Half-term activities run from Thursday 23 October to Sunday 2 November.
