Noremarsh Junior School Celebrates National Recognition for Dyslexia-Friendly Excellence

Noremarsh Junior School in Royal Wootton Bassett has been officially recognised as a Dyslexia Friendly School by the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) — a distinction that highlights the school’s inclusive ethos and commitment to supporting every child.

The school has been awarded the Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark, a nationally respected accolade only given to schools that demonstrate the very best practice in supporting pupils with dyslexia.

Inspectors praised Noremarsh for its “strong sense of inclusion throughout the school,” describing its values as “lived” and visible in every classroom. The team from the BDA and Swindon SEND and Inclusion Service (SSENS) were full of admiration for the school’s community spirit, calling their visit “a lovely, positive day” with “fantastic children and staff.”

They highlighted the school’s consistent approach, skilled use of scaffolding and questioning from teaching assistants, and a strong focus on oracy, which they said had “a real positive impact.”

Headteacher Hilary MacMeekin said the award reflected the dedication of staff, pupils, and families:

“We are thrilled to receive the Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark. This recognition reflects the hard work and passion of our staff and the wonderful enthusiasm of our children. At Noremarsh, we believe every child deserves the best possible start, and this award is a powerful affirmation of that belief.”

The British Dyslexia Association’s Quality Mark is not just a badge of honour; it’s a framework that encourages schools to continuously improve their understanding and support for learners with dyslexia. For parents, it’s also a clear message — that Noremarsh Junior School is a place where every child can thrive.
