‘The Beast from the East’ has left Swindonians turning up the heat in their homes through the freeze but we have yet to be hit with the snow.
It is expected the Portuguese named ‘Storm Emma’ will bring the white stuff to town this coming Thursday and Friday.
Swindon woke to sub-zero temperatures this morning with -2C reported in the Town Centre with the cold air brought in by the Beast from the East adding a windchill of upto -5C, making it feel much colder.
The Met Office says there will be snow in the area by mid-afternoon on Thursday with more expected overnight into Friday.
“There is potential for a spell of heavy snow, accompanied by strong winds, to move slowly north through Thursday afternoon and night.
“There is a small chance that long delays and cancellations on bus, rail and air travel could occur. There is a slight chance that roads may become blocked by deep snow, with stranded vehicles and passengers.
“There is a small chance that long interruptions to power supplies and other services such as telephones, may occur.”
The local area is expected to escape the worst of the weather with The Met Office warning of the potential for some roads to be blocked by the snow, possibly cutting off rural communities on Wednesday int he worst affected areas of the UK.
