Downing Street have confirmed that despite an urgent cabinet meeting being held this afternoon there is no Covid press conference expected to be held this afternoon.
The meeting was called after scientists warned that restrictions need to be made ‘sooner rather than later’ in a bid to curb the spread of the Omicron variant.
The Prime Minister has promised to recall parliament from the Christmas recess to allow MP’s to vote on any new restrictions.
