NHS delivers 6.5 million autumn boosters after bumper week

NHS director of vaccinations and screening, Steve Russell, said: “More than 6.5 million people have received a vital autumn boost since the campaign launched a month ago and demand continues to surge with more than a quarter of a million people getting their jab on average each day last week – peaking at over 450,000 on Saturday.

“The NHS has made the updated covid vaccine as convenient as possible to get, jabbing people 65 and over and those most at risk from serious illness at more than 3,000 sites around the country, and will begin inviting people who are 50 and over for their life-saving top-up dose shortly.”

From Monday 3rd October to Sunday 9th October, the NHS delivered 1.84 million autumn boosters at an average of 262,000 per day.
