The NHS have today confirmed the Covid-19 vaccine roll-out can be expanded to all over-65s, if every effort has been made to get hold of everyone in groups one to four — the over-70s, NHS workers, care home residents and staff, and seriously ill adults.
The move opens the door for up to 3million vulnerable adults to get vaccinated.
By the end of today it is expected around 14 million people will have been given the first dose the Covid-19 vaccination, with the final million of the governments 15million target to be inoculated over the weekend.
The vaccine will then be offered to adults aged 65 and any over-16s in at-risk groups, then all those 60 and over, then 55 and over, and finally 50 and over.
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) is due to recommend which groups should then follow, with pressure for teachers and other frontline workers such as police officers to be on the list.
