New Wroughton Park & Ride layout working well

Earlier this year, the Highways team completed work to improve the internal layout of the Wroughton Park and Ride site.  This was in response to complaints about a large number of drivers turning right illegally out of the Croft Road exit, and we also received reports of several near misses caused by this manoeuvre.

They constructed a new exit point onto Pipers Way with the aim of encouraging people to use this new, safer exit, to travel towards Swindon, and not the Croft Road exit.  They carried out ‘before’ and ‘after’ surveys to count the number of drivers turning right out onto Croft Road and the results have been very encouraging.

Before the scheme went in 116 drivers per day made the illegal right turn.  After the scheme, this number has dropped to just 30 drivers per day.  The team have said that they hope that the new scheme continues to reduce the number of illegal right turns contributing to improving road safety in this area of the town.
