In preparation for the launch of the new food waste recycling service later this year, Swindon residents can expect to see the arrival of brand-new recycling containers throughout the coming months.
Most households will receive a new weighted bag and indoor and outdoor food waste caddies (unless you are already on the food waste collection trial) with a Swindon Borough Council spokesperson saying ‘We will deliver the new containers you need over the summer, but please do not use them just yet.’
While the delivery process of these recycling containers is underway, it is important to note that not everyone will receive their containers simultaneously. There’s no need for concern if you haven’t received yours just yet, as the distribution is a gradual process.
The introduction of these new recycling containers signifies a significant step towards enhancing Swindon’s waste management and sustainability efforts and also ensures Swindon Borough Council complies with the Environment Act 2021, which was passed in November 2021, says that local authorities need to provide a separate food waste collection from 2023.
Once the changes have been implemented, you’ll need to put your waste and recycling out as follows:
- General waste in your black wheelie bin or blue bags
- Plastic and metal recycling in a new weighted bag
- Paper and card recycling in one of your existing recycling boxes
- Glass recycling in one of your existing recycling boxes
- Food waste in large outdoor food waste bin
Remember, you do not need to do anything differently just yet. Swindon Borough Council will write to you closer to the time to confirm exactly what you need to do and from when.
