New national coronavirus lockdown set ‘to be imposed next week’

Reports on The BBC, Sky News and in The Times today suggest a new national coronavirus lockdown is to be imposed next week.

Yesterday saw the UK record a 24,405 new coronavirus cases and 274 new deaths with an estimated 100,000 people catching the virus every day in the UK.

The reports today are all hinting that Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to bow to pressure from Government scientists and announce a blanket lockdown covering the entire country.

It is understood that the new lockdown will be similar to the one imposed in March with the exception that schools, nurseries and universities will this time remain open.

All non-essential retail will again need to close with the measures expected to be in place until at least December 1st.
