Wroughton residents are being greeted by a brighter village centre this summer following the installation of a series of colourful new planters along the High Street.
A total of 13 floral displays have been placed in prominent locations through the village as part of a partnership between Wroughton and Wichelstowe Parish Council and local estate agency Richard James.
Filled with vibrant begonias and other seasonal blooms, the planters are intended to enhance the appearance of the village centre and create a welcoming environment for residents and visitors during the summer months.
The initiative is the latest example of collaboration between local organisations and businesses aimed at improving public spaces within the parish.
Richard James has been part of the Wroughton community for more than three decades, having opened its first office on the High Street in 1992. While the company has since expanded across Swindon and the surrounding villages, it continues to maintain a strong presence in Wroughton.
Parish council chairman Councillor John Hewer welcomed the support from the business and said the new displays were already making a positive difference to the appearance of the village.
He thanked staff at the Wroughton branch for helping to enhance the High Street and said the colourful planters had helped create a brighter and more attractive environment for the community.
Councillor Hewer added that it was encouraging to see local businesses becoming involved in projects that benefit the wider parish and said he was pleased to be working alongside Richard James on the initiative.
The installation comes as villages and towns across Wiltshire and Swindon look to improve public spaces during the summer months through planting schemes, community projects and environmental improvements.
For many communities, floral displays have become an important way of boosting civic pride, supporting local shopping areas and creating a more pleasant experience for visitors.
Ellis-Rose Wigley, branch manager of Richard James in Wroughton, said the company was proud to have been based in the village for more than 30 years and remained committed to supporting the local community.
She said the business was pleased to work with the parish council on the project and hoped the colourful displays would bring enjoyment to residents and visitors throughout the summer.
The parish council has indicated that similar projects could be supported in future through sponsorship from local businesses. Officials say there are a range of opportunities available for organisations looking to contribute to community improvements across Wroughton and Wichelstowe.
The new planters are expected to remain in place throughout the summer, adding colour to one of the village’s busiest thoroughfares and helping reinforce Wroughton’s reputation as a welcoming and well-kept community.
