Losing a loved one is never easy, and for many, the journey through grief can feel isolating. Recognising the need for a welcoming space where people can share their experiences, Prospect Hospice, in partnership with Carer Support Wiltshire, is launching a Bereavement Café in Royal Wootton Bassett.
Set to open its doors on Thursday 6 March, the café will provide a relaxed and informal setting where people can meet others who understand what they are going through. The aim is to create a space where grief can be spoken about openly, offering reassurance that no one has to navigate loss alone.
A Space for Support and Understanding
Jaqui Gullis, Clinical Lead for Therapy Services at Prospect Hospice, explained the importance of this initiative: “Through the care we provide in the community and the conversations we’ve had with patients and their families, it became clear there was a real need for an informal, drop-in service for those coping with bereavement. We wanted to extend this support to everyone, not just those who had a loved one cared for by the hospice.”
Following the success of their first Bereavement Café in Marlborough, which launched last year, Prospect Hospice received an overwhelming response from people asking for similar spaces in other areas. Royal Wootton Bassett was a natural next step, given the number of patients and families in the northern part of Wiltshire who would benefit from this support.
The Angel Hotel has generously offered its space for the café, creating a warm and welcoming environment where visitors can find comfort, conversation, and community.
Drop In for a Chat – No Booking Required
The café sessions will run from 10:30am to 12:00pm and are completely free of charge. There’s no need to book—anyone who feels they would benefit is encouraged to drop by, whether they are looking to talk or simply sit in the company of others who understand.
