More than 700 reports of lockdown measures being ignored over the bank holiday weekend

Over the weekend Wiltshire Police received more than 700 reports of people not abiding by the government’s lockdown measures.

However, although there were reports of some people breaking the restrictions, the vast majority of people did adhere to the measures and stayed at home despite the warm weather.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said, “We’ve received around 700 calls and online reports in total connected to the current Government restrictions but we’ve only been required to attend a very small number of these, between 5-10%. In general, the vast majority of our communities continue to adhere to the Government restrictions. Since the introduction of our new powers, we have issued around 50 fines.”

The powers that police use to enforce the guidelines have come under scrutiny by some but it is said that in Wiltshire, issuing fines is a last resort.
