Monumental Task of Lowering Fleming Way Begins

A monumental task is now underway as the lowering of Fleming Way begins. This significant development aims to enhance accessibility and improve pedestrian movement in the heart of the town centre.

Earlier this month, the ambitious task of lowering the eastern end of Fleming Way to align it with The Parade started which saw approximately 12,000 tonnes of material excavated from the road, some of which is being repurposed within the scheme or recycled off-site.

The ultimate objective is to lower the entire road to this new level, creating a seamlessly accessible location that facilitates the smooth flow of pedestrians.

During this phase of work, the underpass has remained open, ensuring minimal disruption to the public. However, it is important to note that the underpass will eventually be closed as the project progresses. An alternative pedestrian route will be clearly signposted to ensure that pedestrians can continue to move safely and conveniently.

By lowering Fleming Way, Swindon Borough Council is striving to create an environment that promotes accessibility, connectivity, and ease of movement. The ongoing improvements will undoubtedly transform the town centre, fostering a more inclusive and pedestrian-friendly space for residents and visitors alike.
