The UK is set to experience a mini heatwave next week, with temperatures forecasted to soar to 20C, according to he Met Office.
After weeks of wet and windy weather, the nation can expect sunny and warm conditions, with temperatures expected to remain above average for the time of year.
Claire Nasir, a Met Office meteorologist, announced the news on Twitter, stating that “the mercury will soar across the country,” and temperatures across the major cities and inland areas will be “above average, peaking at 20C and perhaps even higher.”
While the warm weather is a welcome change, the upcoming mini heatwave is set to make the UK warmer than some parts of Europe. Temperatures in Rome are expected to reach a high of 17C, and Nice in the south of France will also experience similar temperatures.
The mini heatwave is expected to bring a brief respite from the recent rain and wind, providing an opportunity for people to enjoy outdoor activities and soak up some much-needed vitamin D.
The warm weather is set to last for a few days before a cooler, unsettled period returns. Nevertheless, it is a welcome break from the recent rainy and windy weather, providing a much-needed taste of summer for the UK.
A Met Office spokesperson said ‘Things will be turning milder next week and with milder air over the UK sending temperatures up into the mid-to-high teens for many.
‘Later in the month, temperatures are likely to be above average, possibly feeling very warm in the sunshine, though it’s too early to put any specifics on this at this range.’
