St. George’s Dragons, the football team of St. George’s Church of England Primary School in Semington, has forged a promising partnership with local housebuilder, Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, as the players gear up for the second half of the Future of Football School league.
The Future of Football initiative, a recent addition to Melksham’s sporting scene, unites over 450 pupils from eight schools across the region in weekly football matches, with three thrilling tournaments lined up for later this year.

James Stapleton, Director of Future of Football, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We strive to get as many children as possible into playing football, and bringing schools, children, and parents together has been fantastic for the local community in Melksham.”
He continued, acknowledging the financial strain on school sports budgets, “In the current economic climate, school’s sporting budgets have become heavily stretched which is why we’re so grateful to Barratt David Wilson Homes South West for sponsoring St. George’s Dragon’s kit.”
Highlighting the impact of the funding, Stapleton added, “The funding will allow us to reinvest in the club, enabling us to increase participation in the area and provide children who may not have had the chance otherwise with the opportunity to take part in football.”
Looking ahead to the upcoming tournaments, Stapleton shared his anticipation, “We launched the season late last year, and seeing young players kick a ball that has never played in a team before was extremely rewarding.”
Louise Ware, Sales Director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, echoed the sentiment of support for grassroots initiatives, affirming, “We take immense pride in supporting grassroots sporting initiatives like Future of Football, which works hard to have a positive impact in the community and inspire the next generation of footballers.”
She concluded, extending well wishes to St. George’s Dragons, “We wish St. George’s Dragon’s all the best for their upcoming tournaments.”
