Marks & Spencer, has entered into a consultation phase concerning the prospective closure of its town centre store situated within the Brunel Shopping Centre.
The retail giant announced its intentions to employees on Tuesday, 8th August, of the plans to close this particular branch.
A statement issued by Marks & Spencer indicated a degree of uncertainty regarding potential job redundancies with the company acknowledging the potentially disappointing nature of this announcement for its employees.
“We appreciate that this will be disappointing news for some,” they said.
“Our priority now is to talk to our colleagues about what this announcement means for them and wherever possible, offer them alternative roles with M&S”.
With a number of M&S stores throughout Swindon this news will not come as a surprise to many shoppers with rumours circulating as far back as pre-covid to the store closing.
Neil Enoch, Regional Manager at Marks & Spencer, said, “Shopping habits are changing, so we’re rotating our store estate to make sure we have the right stores to offer customers a brilliant shopping experience.
“As part of this transformation, we have today announced to colleagues our proposal to close our M&S Swindon store at 81 Regent Street”.
