Man jailed after up to £99,000 worth of cannabis seized in Swindon

A man has been jailed after police seized up to £99,000 worth of cannabis during a raid in Swindon.

Back in October officers from the South Swindon Neighbourhood Policing Team executed a number of Misuse of Drugs warrants in the Parks and Walcot areas.

This followed information from members of the public about concern about the cultivation of cannabis and drug dealing at various addresses.

A large-scale cannabis factory was found at a property in Yeovil Close, where officers discovered three rooms being used to grow a large number of cannabis plants.

This cannabis was estimated to have a street value of between £66,985 and £99,185.

Denison Veshi, 19, of Yeovil Close, appeared at Swindon Crown Court last week (08/12) for sentencing.

He had previously pleaded guilty to producing a controlled Class B drug and he was jailed for 20 months and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £156.

PC Whettam, from the local neighbourhood team, said: “Firstly, we would like to thank the members of the public for reporting their concerns to us, so we could take the appropriate action.

“All of these warrants back in October were a direct result of these reports, with that information developed by officers so we could apply to the courts for these warrants.

“We uncovered a large-scale cannabis factory and have been able to ensure these drugs were not able to reach the streets.

“While some people may feel that cannabis is not a dangerous drug, we would remind everyone that it is illegal and we hear a huge amount from our communities about the frustration and anger they feel about drug dealing of all kinds and the related crime that comes with it.”
